Sermon Discussion Questions - Mark 11:1-11 - Palm Sunday

Announcements - Please pray for our church, specifically that we will live out our identity and vision through Love, Live, Legacy. Sign up to help with TCDC.

Aaron mentioned the idea of grief and loss in this unique season. Some things will come back but others may not and will not. How have you experienced grief in the last few weeks? How can you care for others around you who have experienced loss?

  1. Arrival - verses 1-7

A dsitinct message takes place with Jesus riding in on a donkey, both visually and symbolically - what is that message? What are some examples of Jesus’ authority as King that led to this arrival? (examples from his earthly ministry)

  2. Shouting - verses 8-10

Aaron mentioned the idea of the crowds laying their cloaks on the ground as symbolism for they are coming under the authority of this King. Yet in just a few days, some of these same people won’t be laying cloaks or waving palm branches but rather shouting “crucify him.” Where is an area in your life, that you have paid homage to Jesus as king with your words but your actions look more like “crucify him” (an area where you want to be your own authority)?

Each day this week we will send out a resource to help you reflect on the final week of Jesus’ life. We encourage you to take some time personally and with your family to “read, pray, and sing.” We will have a Psalm to read from Psalm 113-118 each day, have a written prayer and a song to sing.

  3. Response - verse 11

Crown me or kill me - How do you respond to Jesus? What are some tangible ways you can crown Jesus daily? Who is someone in your life that has yet to crown Jesus as king? (pray for them, call them today, share the gospel with them)

The truth of Christianity - How is this evidenced? (not just experienced)

How can you reveal the presence of God this week? Start with Romans 12:9-21; consider picking one or two marks mentioned here to put into prayer and action.

Be on the lookout for posts on Realm each day this week to reflect on each day during holy week. They will be based on this great resource from Crossway.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:9-21
